When: Tuesday 12 December 2023, 4.30 p.m.
Where: ArtBrut Gallery
& Studio for Socio-Cultural Inclusion
46A Ruska St., Wrocław (intercom 1)
As part of the event accompanying the exhibition of artists associated with the ArtBrut Gallery & Studio entitled BEYOND TABOO X. BODY AND SOUL, we would like to invite you to a meeting with Dr Joanna Degler from the University of Wrocław and Barbara Przerwa from the National Museum in Wrocław. The subject of the meeting will be corporeality and spirituality in the context of intuitive dance and movement and in the context of Judaism and related rituals. Barbara Przerwa will present a performance entitled The Soul Moves the Body inspired by the works presented at the exhibition Beyond Taboo X, in which she addresses the questions: "Does the soul move a painter's hand, a dancer's leg, a rapper's mouth? When I look at a work of art, who is looking - the body or the soul? When my body moves, will your soul move?". Dr Joanna Degler will talk about rituals which, while pertaining directly to the body, also refer to the soul and the spiritual element and about, among other things, what a dybbuk is and why the mikvah is so important in the synagogue.
The event will be moderated by Katarzyna Kaczorowska, a Wrocław-based journalist associated with Polityka weekly.
The event will also be attended by the artists and the artistic mentor of the BEYOND TABOO X. BODY AND SOUL exhibition, Jacek Zachodny.
