The decision to cooperate with an art-brut artist always raises a question whether it will be possible to establish connection with each other and to what extent two different worlds will find a common point. These questions were answered at the first meeting with Piotr when it turned out that we were both collecting Barbie dolls. I thought I would impress Piotr showing him over one hundred of my own dolls, as Piotr had just a dozen or so of them, but apparently Piotr acted like the Little Prince who, having seen a big rose garden, chose only one rose, his own. But I have the feeling that since then we have established artistic relation, as for both of us dolls are an inspiration in creativity. Barbie dolls have inspired Piotr artistically for years. In my case they are the heroines of the installation, and that’s why, as an artistic tutor, but also as an exhibition arranger, I allowed myself to present one of my installations as addition to Piotr’s works in which Barbie dolls appear as models. We saw them at the exhibition in a series of collages entitled: Piotr’s Collection.

The exhibition in the Wrocław ArtBrut Gallery, entitled THE TITLE OF THE EXHIBITION IS NOT IMPORTANT is the first individual presentation of Piotr Jeruzel’s works. The mischievous title is to draw attention to the fact that for Piotr it doesn’t really matter what’s going on around his art, because what counts for him is the act of creation performed here and now. Preferably when it is accompanied by a rhythmical music. Piotr likes music and dancing, which sometimes becomes his tool for communication with other people. Piotr’s dancing and painting performances will be presented at the exhibition as video and photo documentation. At the exhibition we saw Piotr as a protagonist of a video-art by Mira Boczniowicz and a short documentary of Piotr preparing his current exhibition. When it turned out that Piotr copes perfectly well not just with small forms, but also with large formats, an idea was born to paint the largest wall in the Gallery. The mural was created in a way characteristic for the artist, where expressive colour spots do not cover the whole surface, but compose it dynamically. In his painting, Piotr does not limit himself to one form of expression. His expressive painting in acrylic, gouache or watercolour techniques, he applies on canvas, paper, dresses, bags. At the exhibition we have also presented glass objects created in collaboration with artist Barbara Idzikowska in her Atelier Si, Pb...

Piotr has been associated with the ArtBrut Gallery in Wrocław from its start in 2009 and he participated in more than twenty collective exhibitions of this Gallery, among others such exhibitions as ON THE COMMON. WAVES EVERYWHERE – as part of the International Media Art Biennale WRO 2013, Eat Art within the international project OpenHub Europe in Milan in 2015, Beyond Taboo/Par-delà les tabous at the Art et Déchirure festival in the Mam Gallery in Rouen/France, in 2016, ArtBrut Gallery presentation at the OUT OF STH Biennale of Outdoor Art at BWA Wrocław in 2017, or a presentation International Theatre Festival Retroperspektywy 2018 in the Art_Incubator – Fabryka Sztuki in Łódź in 2018. At the exhibition we presented an overview of the rich collection of works by Piotr Jeruzel from previous years, and his latest works, as well as documentation of actions and projects in which Piotr took part as an artist, such as Art of Empowerment, Jubilo and a fashion show Pink Picnic 2011.
