The author of And the Heart - It's Art! often goes against the tide in her work, yet always remains in harmony with herself. In her drawings and collages she pierces through the layers of sadness and happiness, penetrates the cracks in reality. The author's works, full of riddles, are filled with notes, phone numbers, names. Her art is colourful, sometimes monumental, made with flair, but at the same time intimate and personal. The colours, however, can only be a tease for important content, a background for the emotional game the author plays with her surroundings, because as a woman she has to fight hard for her space, feelings and rights. The graphically distorted words that appear represent information that breaks off and escapes reality. The world gets jammed and confused. Colourful hearts are seemingly joyful, but among them we will also find black hearts, crossed out, torn and shapeless; we will find in them all the variations of our feelings. The word "what" appears repeatedly in the recent works of Agnieszka Kołodziejczyk. The author leaves us alone to deal with it. It seems that we don't need any more words. 'What, what, what' - precisely what?

Jacek Zachodny

Agnieszka Kołodziejczyk – a Wrocław-based artist associated with the ArtBrut Gallery & Studio since its inception in 2009. Most frequently refers in her works to intense feelings as well as interpersonal relations. She draws, paints, writes, creates art books, collages, assemblages, objects, as well as photographic and video works. She has gained fame with her successive renditions of the installation Heart Shop, where she completely filled selected rooms with hundreds of her own drawings of hearts.
The artist has participated in about 20 group exhibitions and art reviews, including: 15TH MEDIA ART BIENNALE WRO 2013, Wrocław 2013; ANTIDOTUM / 12th Survival Art Review – Wrocław 2014; BEYOND TABOO Exhibition / PAR-DELÀ LES TABOUS / ‘Art et Déchirure’ Festival, Rouen, France 2016; 5TH BIENNALE OF URBAN ART – OUT OF STH, Wrocław 2017; ART BRUT / Retroperspektywy Festival; Art Incubator – Fabryka Sztuki, Łódź 2018; 'SHOO!' And the Heart - It's Art! will be the artist's first solo exhibition, offering a comprehensive overview of her work. The title of the exhibition refers to a fragment of the artist's statement from the video accompanying her work Heart Shop.
