The In Search Of Harmony exhibition is the result of a series of workshops by artists from the ArtBrut Gallery with a musician and sound engineer Krzysztof Konieczny, where the artists, while developing sound interactions between them, tried to transcend their own boundaries and to build live polyphonic and multilayer compositions.
The titular search of order and harmony is a process of self-discovery and self-creation by addressing their own work whilst listening to the recordings, remastering them by adding new sounds or by eliminating unwanted noise. Analysis of the world is the second theme of the search for harmony in our immediate surroundings. The exhibition is also an attempt at working as a team, in which the artists focus on listening to each other and the effective collaboration to produce a coherent piece of art. The workshops resulted in both collective audio works, as well as in the more personal interpretations of the phenomenon of harmony - some focusing on the sound harmony, others on order in Nature or mutual interrelation of image and sound - showing those aspects of life and the surrounding reality which are most relevant to the artists.
The effects of these interdisciplinary searches are presented at the exhibition in the form of recordings and visual works. While music was the dominant medium, it was the interplay which was the most important part of the process, and not the learning to play various instruments. An important effect is the harmony among the artists, rather than the harmony of the composition itself. The artists focused on listening to each other and the joy of creation, and not on the rule of composition. Confronting their own performance - as well as the self-discovery based on the analysis of their own creation - were the main components of the harmony search process.
